On the jobWhat customers say
“Had Stump N' Grind out to regrind 6 stumps that were originally ground by the tree company who removed the trees. The company who removed the trees did not grind the stumps properly, and all of the roots were left and were hazardous to the ankles and my mower.”

“Found Robert on Facebook, messaged him about removing 5 stumps from my yard. He responded quickly and asked for pictures. He gave me a quote and then two days later he showed up when he said he would and efficiently removed my stumps. Very fairly priced and the job was done with no issues.”
“Robert was a pleasure to do business with. His price was very fair, he showed up on time, cleaned up after he completed the work, and was easy to talk with.”
“Great experience, great price. Very responsive to text messages. I had one HUGE stump removed and the only thing left was some nice mulch.”
“Excellent service. He's fast, efficient and fairly priced. It's my second time using his service to grind down old stumps in my yard.”
Two jobs, both stumps.

Questions people ask first
How much does stump grinding cost in New Jersey?
Stump grinding is priced mostly by stump diameter, plus how many stumps are on the job, how hard the access is, and whether roots are large. Most companies also charge a minimum for showing up. Text Stump N' Grind photos of the stumps and you get a firm price before anyone comes out. See the cost page for what moves the price.
Do you give free estimates?
Yes. Estimates are free, and most can be done from photos by text. If access looks tricky we walk the yard first.
How fast can you come out?
Reviews from customers describe next-day to two-day turnaround. Text a photo and ask for the next opening.
What areas do you serve?
Sussex County, NJ, and typically within an hour of it. That includes Newton, Sparta, Andover, Hopatcong, Vernon, Hamburg and Branchville, plus nearby Warren, Morris and Passaic County towns and Milford, Matamoras and Dingmans Ferry, PA. Each town has its own page on the service area page.
What is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?
Stump grinding chips the stump and roots to below ground level. Stump removal means the stump and the entire root system are taken out. That costs more and disturbs the yard more, so grinding is right for most yards.
How deep do you grind a stump?
The standard grind is 6 to 9 inches below grade, unless you ask for deeper. We talk with you about whether to grind only the exposed roots or the entire root system. The entire root system costs more and the yard is dug up a lot more. If you plan to plant a tree in the same spot, tell us and we cut deeper.

Grinding maple stumps in NJ and PA
October 26, 2026. Maples have shallow roots that spread wide near the surface, and some stumps send up sprouts after grinding. Plain answers from Robert at Stump N' Grind.
Can a stump be ground right next to a house, fence or septic?
October 24, 2026. Usually yes. A narrow tracked, remote-control grinder lets the operator work from beside the machine instead of straddling it.
